Application
- Water Treatment: One of the primary uses of aluminum sulfate is in water treatment. It acts as a coagulant, helping to remove impurities and suspended solids from water. When added to water, aluminum sulfate forms a gelatinous precipitate, which can then be easily filtered out, resulting in clearer water.
- Paper Industry: Aluminum sulfate is used in the paper industry as a sizing agent and in the process of paper production to improve paper strength and sizing.
- Textile Industry: In the textile industry, aluminum sulfate is used as a mordant, which helps to fix dyes to fabrics. It also helps to improve the brightness and colorfastness of dyes on textiles.
- Soil Amendment: Aluminum sulfate is sometimes used in gardening and agriculture as a soil acidifier. It helps to lower the pH of soil, making it more acidic, which can be beneficial for certain plants that prefer acidic soil conditions.
